The surprise appearance of Ben Stiller and Owen Wilson in character as Zoolander's Derek and Hansel for the grand finale of Valentino's Fall/Winter 2015-2016 show did not outshine the collection itself, inspired by female artists and fashion designers Emilie Flöge and Celia Birtwell. Flöge was the life partner of Gustav Klimt, freeing women from the corset with her fashion creations in the 1900s and Birtwell, wife of Ossie Clark and muse of David Hockney, is renowned as one of the iconic figures of Swinging London. Celia Birtwell continues to design prints for the biggest fashion houses, collaborating with Maria Grazia Chiuri and Pierpaolo Piccioli for the Fall/Winter collection to create several variations on the theme of the dragon, reinterpreting one the animal emblems of Monsieur Valentino. This embroidered bag features details inspired by Chinese tradition, including the head of a lion, flowers, plants and all the colorful symbols of diverse human characteristics and spiritual values.
