As she celebrates her birthday, we catch up with Cindy in 21 questions.
1/15How does it feel to share the cover of Vogue Paris with your daughter? Being able to share a Vogue Paris cover with my daughter was such an incredible experience. It seems like only yesterday that I was doing my first cover. Time flies and I'm so proud of the people my children are becoming. What does Vogue Paris mean to you? It is the epitome of style. Vogue is the ultimate authority on fashion and French women have always represented an understated chic style that I love.
2/15You have worked on many occasions with Mario Testino, what is it like to shoot with him? Shooting with Mario is a dream. He's easy, fun and you know you are in the best hands. For this issue, I was very excited for Presley and Kaia to have the honor of working with him. I want them to learn from the best. Which supermodel did you look up when you started your modelling career? Brooke Shields, Paulina Porizkova and Phoebe Cates.
3/15What is your relationship with photography? I have always loved looking at photographs. When I started out as a young model, I always tried to study the work of whatever photographer I was going to be shooting with. Luckily for me, I have had the opportunity to work with some of the masters like Irving Penn and Richard Avedon. I would ask them questions and they would introduce me to some of their favorite photographers like Steichen and Dritikol. It was a great way to learn to appreciate photography. The whole transition to digital has changed the experience of being in front of the camera for me. I've learned to appreciate the infinite possibilities and the instantaneous nature of digital photography. What does art mean to you? To me, art is any expression of creativity- from cooking to arranging flowers.
4/15Describe your perfect day off when you are not working? My perfect day off involves waking up at the beach without my alarm going off. Then, enjoying a quiet cup of tea with my husband before the kids and their friends wake up for a big American breakfast of pancakes (for them, not me!). Then, maybe a bike ride or hike and lunch by the pool. Finishing off the day by watching the sunset and barbecue with friends, then, falling asleep reading a good book.
5/15What do you do to stay in shape? I try to work out with my trainer two or three times a week. I usually warm up on the treadmill and then do an hour of weights and other exercises with stair intervals in between. I also try to either hike or bike ride one other day a week. What is your beauty routine? My beauty routine is pretty simple-especially since I launched my own skincare line called Meaningful Beauty in collaboration with Dr Sebagh. In the morning I cleanse, use a serum and a day cream with SPF. In the evening, the same routine but a night cream instead. If I have a little extra time or a special event, I will do a mask. I also get microdermabrasion facials once a month.
6/15What is your go-to outfit for day? Ever since I started living in LA, I have become a total jeans girl. I love jeans and sandals with a t-shirt or a blouse. And night? At night, I swap sandals for heels and a leather jacket with a scarf.
7/15City or country? The beach. Malibu for me is the perfect balance.
